Poem – Jan FitzGerald

McLaren Falls

in this place
the river rises to meet us
& rungs of spray
swing from bank to sky

ducks pedal down
to Freshwater Atlantis

in this place
indefinable grapnels to granite
& lake-loving cypress
tai chi in the wind

rapids muster & gallop
in a thunder of boulders

in this place
rock rises to warm us
with a memory of moss
scent of lichen
