Poem – Anne French

Marine maintenance

CRC for the seized zip on my sailing bag.

Dry Glide for the spinnaker snatch block.

Rescue tape for the roller round the baby stay.

Dry Glide for the frozen hank on the No 1.

Jif for the aluminium oxide blooms
inside the espresso maker.

Janola for the heads.

Hundred-mile-an-hour tape for the dinghy.

Olive oil for the galley pump.

Stickyback for the sails.

Microfibre for the brightwork.

But the sea eats everything in the end.

Boat soap. CRC. Slap. Dry Glide.
Epoxy. Nitto. Duct tape. Silicon.
Etching primer. Teak oil. Antifoul. Linseed.
